It's getting harder and harder to convince myself I'm sane. I mean, I just wrote (again) about America's impending civil war yesterday, and this morning I found out persons unknown mailed bombs to
- Former President Barack Obama
- Former President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary
- CNN (address to former CIA director John Brennan)
- Democratic billionaire activist George Soros
- Former Chair of the Democratic National Committee (2013-2016), Debbie Wasserman Schultz
There have been no casualties. All explosive devices have been intercepted.
This is insanity enough, but my god, the comment sections. Get a load of just a few of these:
"False flag. More to come."
"Likely sent by the [Democratic National Convention] to deflect from the mobs they have spawned."
"So, my guess is there will be a "Fake" bomb report at every Democrat house thinking this will get the sympathy support. Impeachment -FAIL, Kavanaugh - FAIL, mass organized illegal boarder [sic] rushing - FAIL.... and now bombs... what next?"
"Another ploy to give the Dems the edge before the midterms, perhaps?"
"I have been in politics for a long time, and one of the things I am sure of is that the liberal left, progressive commie Democrats lie, cheat, and are willing to do anything to curry favor in their direction so that they may increase their power over the government. Despite the manipulation of the polls, they know that there is no blue wave coming unless they do something desperate to get their voters energized, and to convince the undecided voters to sway in their direction. Because of their ideology of victimology one would expect them to paint themselves as victims to steal public sympathy."
"FAKE FAKE FAKE
This is how desperate the DemoKKKrats are. They got nothing, so they fake this to distract from the coming invasion of the Third World, their pathetic candidates, their lack of message."
This goes on and on for pages.
That level of cynicism is utterly unfathomable to me. That it's so widespread is more than distressing. What these people are suggesting is that Democrats are deliberately targeting the lives of figures most of them revere just to score political points. You're kidding, right? Tell me you're kidding.
You're not kidding. Jesus. One of you people actually said "CNN is desperate for ratings".
Oh, I get it! This is like how the Democrats have organized this "national emergy" of a migrant caravan, with "criminals and unknown Middle Easterners" mixed in. It's seven thousand or so starving people, moving towards the United States at the terrifying velocity of about three miles an hour. Because, you know, every criminal and unknown Middle Easterner seeking to wreak havoc on FREEDOM (tm) first goes to Guatemala and then walks from there.
What else has been faked by Democrats? About three thousand deaths from Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, apparently. There's nothing they can't do, those Democrats.
But back to the bombs. The only one that has so far been detonated (as I write this) arrived at the estate of George Soros on Monday. The New York Times says it was likely hand-delivered. A user named "Michael Durant" sets this question up:
How could a citizen get through Soros' gated security system and walk a hundred yards through cctv, sound alarms, guards and guard dogs to drop a package off to the front door....and not be intercepted, noticed or discovered?
Easy, says "Mark Yaz". Fake news.
Except the mailbox is outside the compound (otherwise how could the mail even be delivered?). It's true that not every article on this incident explicitly states this, but enough of them do. The rebuttal won't stop anyone: they'll just keep repeated the same stupid question over and over again, and concluding: "fake news".
For once, (some of) the White House has responded properly. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders:
We condemn the attempted violent attacks recently made against President Obama, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton, and other public figures. These terrorizing acts are despicable, and anyone responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The United States Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies are investigating and will take all appropriate actions to protect anyone threatened by these cowards.”
Vice President Mike Pence, in a tweet:
"We condemn the attempted attacks against fmr Pres Obama, the Clintons, CNN and others. Those responsible will be brought to justice."
President Trump, in what has got to be the most statesmanlike clip I've heard from him:
"I just want to tell you that in these times, we have to unify, we have to come together and send one very clear, strong, unmistakable message that threats or acts of political violence have no place in the United States of America. It's a very bipartisan statement. This egregious conduct is abhorrent to everything we hold dear and sacred as Americans."
You see that? Even Donald Trump, a man who had no problem with the Charlottesville demonstrations and who has a marked history of dismissing anything he doesn't like as "fake news", is sounding almost like a President on this. Pity about his supporters. Maybe if he hadn't been inciting violence at every rally for the last three years...
Personally, I don't know what to do anymore. Anybody you disagree with is a Russian bot. All trust has been lost in the the institutions that have always promoted social cohesion: the media, the courts, the legislative branch of the government itself...I mean, political disagreements have always existed, and sometimes they get heated, but it's been a long time since each party thought the other one was traitorous. And slowly but oh so surely, it's creeping northward. The level of hatred for Justin Trudeau is beyond rational. So is the level of hatred for Andrew Scheer.
"Things fall apart. The center can not hold."
(Is there even a center any more?)
I just want to go away to someplace soft, warm, and undramatic, where I never have to hear the word "fake" again. Is that too much to ask?
